It has been announced that the deadline for the Vanda & Young Global Songwriting Competition has been extended to February 15th, 2023.

The competition, which was established in 2009 in collaboration with APRA AMCOS, recognizes outstanding songwriting and raises funds for Noro (formerly Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Australia). Alberts has been a long-standing supporter of the organization and its mission to transform lives through music therapy.

The competition is named after legendary songwriters Harry Vanda and the late George Young, who wrote numerous hits in the 60s that have been covered by artists such as Grace Jones, Tom Jones, David Bowie, and Meatloaf.

The competition offers a total of AUD $70,000 in cash prizes, with the 1st place winner receiving AUD $50,000 courtesy of APRA AMCOS, Alberts, and Sony Music Publishing, the 2nd place winner receiving AUD $10,000 courtesy of Banki Haddock Fiora, and the 3rd place winner receiving AUD $5,000 courtesy of Aon. Additionally, the AMPAL Emerging Songwriter Prize offers a prize of AUD $5,000 and the American Songwriter Spotlight Award offers a prize of AUD $1,500.

Research has shown that music therapy can dramatically improve the lives of individuals affected by physical, psychological, cognitive, emotional, and social difficulties. With all proceeds going towards the work of Noro Music Therapy Australia, the competition has already raised over one million dollars since 2009.

The competition is open to all songwriters, published or unpublished, and entry fees are AUD $50 per song. To enter, contestants need to submit their song in MP3 format, a digital photo, a biography of 300 words or less, and a letter of authority from a parent or guardian if under 18.
