The Portfolio Project, a professional development program designed to empower and provide creative and networking opportunities, resources, skills, and assets for emerging culturally diverse musicians in Naarm/Melbourne, is now open for applications. The program is available for culturally diverse solo artists, duos, and bands and is specifically aimed at First Nations Peoples and culturally diverse LGBTQIA+ musicians.
With only 15 places available, the program provides a unique opportunity for participants to be paired up with established music industry professionals who will act as mentors. The mentors will provide advice, suggestions, and guidance over the course of five mentorship sessions.
The Portfolio Project will consist of four phases: Passport, Suitcase, Lounge, and Flight. The Passport phase will include an electronic press kit with professional photos and performance footage, as well as Music Victoria Essentials membership and The Boite Artist/Ensemble Membership. The Suitcase phase will include mentorship, promotional and audience development activities, such as smaller showcase events, radio appearances, and print editorials.
The Lounge phase will provide professional introductions and networking opportunities, while the Flight phase will culminate in ticketed concerts, celebrating the achievements of the project, with targeted invitations sent to key industry players.
The Portfolio Project is supported by the City of Yarra, Australia Council for the Arts, Inner North Foundation, Music Victoria, Melbourne Polytechnic, and Creative Victoria.
Culturally diverse solo artists, duos, and bands are invited to apply for the Portfolio Project, and applications close on February 10, 2023. If you are applying on behalf of a band or ensemble, at least one member must be of culturally diverse background.
