“Twin Flames” by Glenn Musto: Acoustic Serenity Meets Spiritual Depth

Square

In his latest single, “Twin Flames,” Glenn Musto delivers a song that is both vulnerable and powerful, capturing the very essence of our lifelong emotional and spiritual journey. The peaceful acoustic piece of “Twin Flames” describes how love will take one from adolescent longing to being lost in romantic euphoria, only to find out that patience and self-acceptance are the key to allowing pure love to exist and grow unconditionally.

Musto’s music is repeatedly noted for being keenly emotional, almost agonizingly so, and profoundly spiritual; “Twin Flames” is no exception. The song represents his one-of-a-kind ability to blend indie, folk, rock, and lo-fi sounds into something uniquely stunning and resounding. A twenty-year pedigree as a songwriter is presented in the crafting and emotional depth of the song itself.

Born near Fremantle in Perth, Western Australia, Musto grew up amidst emotional escape and a fertile imagination. He created his own universe: talking to grass trees, creating whole sports competitions, or writing songs about all the intriguing, sensitive humans surrounding him. By the time he reached twelve years of age, he had written a hundred songs, although he never played them for anyone—not even his mother. These early experiences have apparently reflected in his songwriting, which till now is notable for naivety on the one hand and sagacity on the other.

Through the years, Musto developed an obsession with indie rock music and became quite a prolific multi-instrumentalist musician, singer, and songwriter. He wrote seven albums with diverse and often provocative styles and toured Australia and Europe consistently throughout his career.

As the frontman of the well-credentialed Perth band Showbag, Musto took to the stage with heroes such as Guided By Voices, Dinosaur Jr. and The Mountain Goats, alongside hundreds of local acts. Between 2006 and 2018 he indulged a more gentle musical sensibility as the principal songwriter in the pop outfit College Fall, who spent an uninterrupted eight years touring Europe and played at a slew of Scandinavian and UK festivals.

In recent years, however, Musto has found a new home in the wild forests of Victoria’s Central Highlands, where he started an animal rescue sanctuary. He writes and records inside a wooden cabin that serves a dual purpose as his living space and hearth, where he continues to make music with deep feeling and spiritual reverberation.

His soon-to-be-released vinyl, “Unravel,” follows the same themes of connection, trauma, and redemption. Musto’s solo shows have been considered almost shockingly intimate in their performances, sometimes using live looping and programming. On a few occasions, he has even had the chance to perform with some of his heroes, which brought an epic element to his onstage performances.

As he gears up to head out on the road in 2024 with dates throughout the UK, Europe, and Australia, it’s songs like “Twin Flames” that remind the world of his timeless talent—the ability to touch someone’s heart with music that is deeply personal and emotionally resonant. It is a song that takes you on a journey, but at the same time, one that allows you to dwell in your emotional and spiritual landscape along with Musto.
